REPORT ON ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS SESSION

On August 8, 2026, the Health and Social Welfare Committee (HSWC) of Manipal College of Nursing, alongside faculty advisor Mr. Raghavendra Nayak, organized an educational session on organ donation for first-semester BSc Nursing students. The session was led by Mrs. Preethi, who highlighted the crucial role of organ donation in saving lives and addressed the range of organs and tissues that can be donated, including kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas, corneas, skin, and bones. She further detailed the distinction between living and deceased donations, necessary medical evaluations, eligibility criteria, retrieval procedures, and the legal and ethical framework governing organ donation in India.

Throughout the event, Mrs. Preethi dispelled common myths with evidence-based facts and emphasized the responsibility of healthcare professionals to raise public awareness and encourage voluntary pledges. The hour-long session concluded at 12:30 PM with a vote of thanks, having successfully enhanced the students' understanding of organ donation and its vital role in patient care. The session directly aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education.
