World Alzheimer’s Day – 2025

Department of Psychiatric Nursing at Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) observed World Alzheimer’s Day – 2025 through two activities for the people in the community.
“Ask about Dementia. Ask about Alzheimer’s” was the theme of this year’s observation, and based on it, an awareness session was organized for the Rosarian Senior Citizen Club at Santhekatte in collaboration with Lions Club, Santhekatte, and Lions Club, Kallianpura on September 21st between 9 am and 11 am. Dr Savitha Prabhu was the resource person for the session, and she deliberated on the causes, risk factors, and early detection of dementia. The interactive session was attended by 100 participants and coordinated by Mrs. Prathibha L Braggs and Mrs. Flavia S Noronha, faculty at MCON.
A screening camp for early detection of dementia was also organized for the members of Rotary Club, Karkala, on September 24th between 6 pm and 8 pm. The screening was done by a team from the Department of Psychiatry, KMC, Manipal. This camp was organized in collaboration with Dept. of Psychiatry, KMC, Manipal, Dementia Alliance of India, and Rotary Club, Karkala. The screening camp was followed by a brief awareness talk on dementia and its causes by Dr. Abhiram P N, Assistant Professor, Dept of Psychiatry, KMC. The program was beneficial to 60 participants, with most of them being senior citizens. Dr. Binil V, Dr. Savitha Prabhu, and Mrs. Flavia S Noronha, faculty members at MCON, coordinated the screening camp along with the team members from KMC.
Both the programs were organized with a broader view to attain the “SDG3: Good health and wellbeing”, “SDG17: Partnerships for the goals”, and were a part of Corporate Social Responsibility activities.
