Suture and needle technologies workshop

The Manipal Centre of Excellence in Interprofessional Advanced Wound Care, in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Pvt. Ltd., successfully conducted a hands-on workshop for healthcare professionals, bringing together participants from diverse disciplines to enhance their skills in advanced wound care.
A total of 46 participants actively engaged in the practical training sessions. Dr. Carlsen Bernard Pereira, Associate Professor, Department of Plastic Surgery, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), MAHE, Manipal, led an interactive suturing workshop in which participants gained firsthand experience using simulated models. His session provided valuable insights into essential suturing techniques and encouraged experiential learning.
Adding to the learning experience, Mr. Raju Kataraki and Mr. Sanjay S. from MedTech introduced participants to the latest advancements in needle technology and suture materials, explaining their features and clinical applications in an easy-to-understand manner.
The workshop also addressed the often-overlooked ethical dimensions of wound care. Dr. Sushma Prabhu, Associate Professor, Department of Anatomy, KMC, MAHE, Manipal, facilitated a highly engaging session on wound care ethics. Through group discussions and interactive activities, she encouraged participants to reflect on real-world ethical challenges and approach critical decision-making with confidence and empathy.
Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi, coordinator of the center, emphasized that strong clinical skills are essential for nurses seeking global career opportunities. Encouraging participants to continuously enhance their competencies, she highlighted that in today's healthcare landscape, skills and clinical excellence are key to employability and professional success.
The workshop was enriched by the presence of Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Professor and Dean, MCON; Dr. Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean; and Dr. Suba Sooria, Head of Nursing Services, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. Interacting with the participants, they encouraged budding healthcare professionals to embrace lifelong learning, sharpen their skills, and remain committed to delivering compassionate and high-quality care, thereby shaping a healthier future for society.
The workshop offered a unique blend of technical skill development, innovation, and ethical reflection, fostering interprofessional collaboration and enriching the participants' approach to patient-centered wound care.
