Workshop Report on “Emerging Trends in Nursing Education: Simulation and AI”

A one-day workshop on “Emerging Trends in Nursing Education: Simulation and AI” was organized by the First-Year M.Sc. Nursing students of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, on 11 March 2026. The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of modern teaching strategies, particularly the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and simulation in nursing education.

The inaugural session was held from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM in the MCON Seminar Hall. The programme commenced with an invocation by Ms. Prajita, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Binil V, Faculty Convener. An overview of the workshop was presented by Ms. Reshma. The dignitaries then performed the traditional lighting of the lamp to mark the formal inauguration of the workshop.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Anice George, Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, addressed the gathering and highlighted the growing importance of technology, artificial intelligence, and simulation in strengthening nursing education and enhancing clinical competency. This was followed by an address by Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean, MCON, who emphasized the need for innovative teaching-learning approaches in nursing education. The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Tathagata Konar, Student Convener.

Following the inaugural session, the first scientific session was delivered by Fr. Anil Ivan Fernandes, Director and Diocesan Secretary, Commission for Social Communication, Diocese of Mangalore, on the topic “Applied AI in Nursing Education: Tools for Teaching, Learning, and Research.” The session highlighted the diverse applications of artificial intelligence in teaching, academic work, and research activities, providing participants with practical insights into emerging AI tools.

The afternoon sessions commenced at 2:00 PM with sessions by Dr. Vimal Krishnan S, Professor and Head, Department of Emergency Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and Dr. Anil Raj A, Assistant Professor (Senior Scale), Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing. These sessions focused on simulation-based education and practical approaches to clinical simulation in nursing education. Participants were also engaged in hands-on scenario-based practice, enabling them to experience realistic clinical learning situations.

The workshop concluded at 4:00 PM with certificate distribution by Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, who also delivered a brief concluding address emphasizing the importance of continuing education and innovative learning methods in nursing. The programme ended with expressions of gratitude to the faculty convener, student convener and co-convener, resource persons, participants, and organizers for their contributions to the successful conduct of the workshop.

The programme was smoothly anchored by Ms. Fariyal, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. Participants’ feedback was collected online through a Google Form. Overall, the workshop was informative, offering valuable insights and practical exposure to the integration of simulation and artificial intelligence in nursing education.

The workshop aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 4, 9, and 17, focusing on promoting good health and well-being, ensuring quality education, fostering innovation and resilient infrastructure, and strengthening partnerships for development.
