WEBINAR ON QUANTITATIVE NURSING RESEARCH

A two-day webinar on "Quantitative Nursing Research" was held on 16 and 17 July 2026 through the Microsoft Teams online platform. The program was organized by the first-year students of the Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC) Postgraduate Residency Program, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, in collaboration with Pillar II (IoE): Exemplary Research and Innovation, Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, Manipal.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by the student organizers, Ms. Glaneetha Bridget D'Almeida and Ms. Ayantika Ghosh. This was followed by the inaugural address delivered by Dr. Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, who emphasized the significance of quantitative research in strengthening evidence-based nursing practice and fostering research competencies among healthcare professionals.

Over the two days, eleven sessions covering various aspects of quantitative nursing research were conducted from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The first day began with sessions on Research Process and Writing a Research Proposal, Conceptual Framework, and Quantitative Research Designs, delivered by Dr. Tessy Treesa Jose, Dr. Mamatha S. Pai, Professor and Head, Department of Child Health Nursing, and Dr. Melita Sheilini, Associate Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, respectively. The afternoon sessions included Literature Search, presented by Dr. Baby S. Nayak, Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing, followed by Data Collection Techniques and Methods, delivered by Dr. Sonia R. B. D'Souza, Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing.

The second day commenced with the session on Data Collection Instruments: Validity and Reliability, conducted by Dr. Jyothi Chakrabarty, Professor and Head, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing. This was followed by sessions on Sampling and Analysis and Interpretation of Data, delivered by Dr. Soumya Christabel, Assistant Professor (Senior Scale), and Dr. Sushmitha R. Karkada, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, respectively. Dr. Manjula Anil Kunder, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, MAHE, Manipal, conducted an informative session on Sample Size Estimation. The post-lunch sessions featured Writing for Publication and Communicating Research Findings, presented by Dr. Binu Margaret, Assistant Professor (Selection Grade), Department of Child Health Nursing, followed by Ethics in Research and the CTRI Registration Process, delivered by Dr. Binil V., Additional Professor and Head, Department of Mental Health (Psychiatric) Nursing.

The webinar attracted 34 participants, including 30 external participants and 4 participants from MAHE, representing different states across India. The sessions received positive feedback from the participants for their relevance, clarity, and practical orientation. The program was effectively moderated throughout the two days by the student organizers, Ms. Glaneetha Bridget D'Almeida and Ms. Ayantika Ghosh.

The webinar concluded with the closing remarks by Dr. Jyothi Chakrabarty, Professor and NPCC Course Coordinator, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, followed by the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Glaneetha. The program was coordinated by Dr. Melita Sheilini, Associate Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing and Research Coordinator for the NPCC Program, under the guidance of Dr. Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean and Chairperson, IoE Pillar II, and Dr. Jyothi Chakrabarty, Professor and NPCC Coordinator, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.

The webinar successfully enhanced participants' understanding of quantitative research methodologies and strengthened their knowledge of the research process, thereby promoting high-quality nursing research. The program aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 – Quality Education, by fostering research capacity and lifelong learning among nursing professionals.
