Report on School Health Program- Observing National Epilepsy Day-2025

The Department of Community Health Nursing and the 5th semester BSc Nursing, students of Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, observed National Epilepsy Day-2025 on the theme “Awareness diagnosis and timely care”, at Government Higher Primary School, Guddeangadi , Bommarabettu on 12th December 2025. Ms. Jenisha Dsouza, a 5th-semester BSc Nursing student at MCON, served as the Master of Ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the gathering. Mrs. Vasundara, Headmistress of Government Higher Primary School, Guddengadi, Bommarbettu, addressed the audience and highlighted the significance of conducting health awareness programmes for the welfare of children and the community. This was followed by an informative session by Ms. Surekha, Lecturer, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, who discussed key aspects such as early warning signs, myths and misconceptions, the importance of timely diagnosis, and essential first-aid measures. She emphasized that individuals with epilepsy can lead healthy and fulfilling lives with appropriate care and awareness.
The 5th-semester BSc Nursing students organized a series of engaging and educational activities. These included a skit showcasing the symptoms of epilepsy, key first-aid measures, and the message that individuals with epilepsy can live normal, fulfilling lives. They also performed a dance emphasizing epilepsy recognition, displayed informative posters on its management, and presented a video promoting awareness, early diagnosis, and timely care.
The school children also enthusiastically participated in a quiz competition on epilepsy-related topics, and prizes were distributed to the winners. A total of 112 individuals attended the programme, including 81 schoolchildren, 8 school teachers, 22 parents, and one ASHA worker.
By promoting epilepsy awareness and first-aid preparedness, this initiative advanced SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), helping to build stronger health literacy among students, teachers, and parents. Ms. Kripa Sharon, a 5th-semester BSc Nursing student, proposed a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all. Overall, the programme was coordinated and guided by Ms. Surekha Lecturer and Mr. Amol, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.
