Guest Lecture on Data Management and Statistical Analysis using MS Excel and Statistical Software

The Department of OBG Nursing at Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, Manipal, organized a Guest Lecture on Data Management and Statistical Analysis using MS Excel on February 26, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in LH4 Classroom for II Semester BSc Nursing students. The session was delivered by Ms. Ashwini Amin, National Scholar under the DST INSPIRE Fellowship, Government of India, School of Computer Science and Engineering, MIT, MAHE, Manipal.

The lecture on “Data Management and Statistical Analysis using MS Excel and Statistical Software” focused on strengthening students' understanding of data handling in healthcare research. Ms. Ashwini explained key concepts, including data types, data cleaning, exploratory data analysis, and descriptive and inferential statistics in a clear and practical manner. She demonstrated the use of MS Excel for basic statistical analysis and introduced tests such as t-tests, ANOVA, Chi-square tests, and correlation using Jamovi, emphasizing appropriate test selection based on the research questions.

She also introduced Power BI as a tool for creating interactive dashboards and reports in hospital settings. By relating statistical concepts to real-life nursing examples, the session made data analysis meaningful and relevant to evidence-based practice. The lecture was interactive and informative, and students gained valuable practical insights.

The guest lecture was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sonia R. B. D’Souza, Head of the Department, OBG Nursing, and Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. The session was coordinated by Ms. Pratibha, Assistant Professor (Senior Scale), MCON, MAHE, Manipal.
