Report on World Diabetes Day 2025 Celebration

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, including second-year MSc Medical-Surgical Nursing students of Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, in association with the Rotary Club, Manipura, Udupi District, organized a World Diabetes Day Celebration on 17th November 2025 at Rotary Bhavana, Manipura, Udupi. The theme of World Diabetes Day 2025 is “Diabetes and Well-being – Diabetes Across Life Stages.”
The programme began with a warm welcome from the organizing team. Dr. Jyothi Chkarabarty, Professor and Head of the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of the day. It was followed by a speech from President Rotarian Mr. Rajesh Naik and Director Rotarian Mr. Camil Sequira of the Rotary Club, Manipura. They highlighted the growing burden of diabetes in India and emphasized the importance of early screening and lifestyle modification for prevention and control.
A total of 42 people participated in this programme. They were screened for height, weight, Blood Pressure, and Glucometer random blood sugar. The health screening facilitated early identification of individuals at risk and promoted awareness regarding routine health checkups.
The MSc Nursing students delivered health education focusing on the causes, risk factors, warning signs, complications, and preventive strategies for diabetes mellitus. The session also emphasized the importance of healthy dietary practices, regular physical activity, and medication adherence. Participants actively engaged in clarifying their doubts and expressing their interest in improving their lifestyle habits.
This initiative supported Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting community health awareness and empowering individuals with knowledge for better diabetes prevention and management. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Janet Prameela Dsouza, Assistant Professor – Senior Scale, Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, under the guidance of Dr. Jyothi Chakrabarty. The department expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club, Manipura for their support and to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
