June 24, 2026
Third-year nursing students (6th semester) from the University of Stavanger (UiS), Norway, successfully completed a five-week clinical internship at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, from May 11 to June 12, 2026. This program provided a dynamic platform for experiential learning, cross-cultural exchange, and professional growth. During this internship, the UiS students engaged in a collaborative clinical placement alongside students from the Manipal College of Nursing, fostering mutual knowledge exchange, peer learning, and cultural understanding.
The students were exposed to a diverse range of clinical specialties, including orthopaedics, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, high-dependency units, and emergency wards. Additionally, the students were oriented to the organizational structure, facilities, and multidisciplinary services at Kasturba Hospital.
To promote holistic and integrative learning, the students visited Hombelaku, a psychiatric rehabilitation center, as well as the Departments of Ayurveda and Yoga at Kasturba Hospital. Beyond clinical practice, the students actively participated in academic programs, including the National workshop on ‘Critical Care Competency’ and International Nurses’ Day 2026 celebrations. The international internship aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
The program was coordinated by Dr. Soumya Christabel under the guidance of Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean, MCON, and facilitated by the Team Internationalization of MCON, comprising Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi and Dr. Shashidhara YN.
Throughout the internship, the students received digital supervision and academic support. This ensures alignment with the curriculum and learning objectives of the Bachelor of Nursing program at UiS, Norway.
The students successfully achieved their intended learning outcomes and expressed positive feedback and appreciation for the clinical exposure, academic engagement, and cultural experiences gained at the Manipal College of Nursing and Kasturba Hospital, MAHE Manipal.
