WORLD HAND HYGIENE DAY - 2026

June 01, 2026

To commemorate World Hand Hygiene Day (May 5, 2026), the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing hosted a photography competition centered on the global theme, "Action saves lives." The event aimed to highlight the critical importance of hand hygiene in infection prevention and patient safety through visual storytelling.

The initiative garnered enthusiastic participation from a diverse academic cohort of 25, including students and faculty members from Manipal College of Nursing. Participants demonstrated remarkable creativity, exploring various artistic media to translate the theme into compelling, real-world visual narratives.

Based on the metrics, four exceptional entries were awarded prizes for their impactful representation of hand hygiene advocacy. Ms. Bindhu K M (Faculty, MCON) secured the first prize; Ms. Alna P Rony (2nd Semester) secured the second prize; and the third prize was secured by Ms. Ngawang Chemi (2nd Semester) and Mr. Avilin Sabu Varghese (2nd Semester).

The competition successfully heightened awareness around critical infection control protocols among both students and faculty. The competition was organized in line with SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being) and SDG 6 (Clean Water & Sanitation) to raise awareness of hand hygiene and disease prevention.

The event was meticulously organized by Ms. Bindhu KM, Lecturer, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing. Beyond artistic exploration, the competition successfully reinforced the institution's collective commitment to evidence-based clinical practices.
