As part of the Community Health Nursing academic activity, a radio talk program was conducted on 13 July 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Radio Manipal (90.4 MHz), Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC), and it was broadcast on 17.06.2026 at 5 pm. The program was organized by the Department of Community Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, in collaboration with a First-Year MSc Nursing student.
The program aimed to create awareness among the general public regarding tobacco use, nicotine addiction, and their harmful effects on health. Emphasis was placed on tobacco prevention and cessation strategies, as well as on promoting healthy lifestyle practices, particularly among the younger generation.
The session was conducted in an interactive interview format. Dr. Malathi G. Nayak, Professor and Head, Department of Community Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, served as the interviewer, while Ms. Amisha Nithyananda Poojary, First-Year MSc Nursing student (Community Health Nursing), Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, participated as the resource person and speaker.
The program was organized to observe World No Tobacco Day, celebrated annually on 31 May, with the theme “Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction.” The theme highlights the need to expose marketing tactics that make tobacco and nicotine products attractive, particularly to young people, and to educate the public about their detrimental effects on health.
The discussion covered various aspects of tobacco use, nicotine dependence, associated health risks, preventive measures, and available cessation support. The session concluded with a strong message encouraging listeners to adopt a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle and to actively contribute to creating a healthier community. This event contributed significantly to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education).
