Report on School Health Program on Nutrition Awareness

The faculty of the Department of Community Health Nursing and the students of the 7th semester BSc Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, organized a School Health Programme on Nutrition Awareness titled “Healthy Plate, Healthy Future” at Karnataka Public School, Hiriyadka, Udupi Taluk, on 7th November 2025. Ms. Esther, a 7th semester BSc Nursing student at MCON, served as the Master of the Ceremony and warmly welcomed the gathering. Mrs Revathi, Headmistress of Karnataka Public School, Hiriyadka, addressed the students and emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy diet during childhood to promote overall growth and development. Following this, Ms. Surekha, Lecturer, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, enlightened the young minds on the significance of good nutrition, the ill effects of unhealthy eating habits, and motivated the students to adopt healthy dietary practices for a bright and healthy future.

The 7th semester BSc Nursing students conducted a variety of interactive and educational activities, including a skit on the importance of a nutritious diet and personal hygiene, a dance on hand hygiene, poster displays on a balanced diet, and a video presentation on nutritious food and personal hygiene. The school children also enthusiastically participated in a quiz competition on health-related topics, and prizes were distributed to the winners. A total of 212 participants attended the programme , including 202 school children and 10 school teachers.

This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education ), promoting health literacy on Nutrition and its importance.

Ms. Riya Menezes, a 7th semester BSc Nursing student, proposed a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all. The programme was coordinated and guided by Ms. Surekha and Ms. Clara Prameela D’Souza, Lecturers, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.
