May 02, 2026
A guest lecture on “Electronic Health Recording, Monitoring, and Documentation: Experiences in the Stavanger Health Sector” was organized by the Department of Obstetric and Gynaecological (OBG) Nursing at Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manpal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, on 31 March 2026, in LH3 Classroom for II Semester B.Sc. Nursing students. The session was conducted by Ms. Janne Gabrielle Hunsbeth, University Lecturer in the faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Stavanger, Norway. The lecture focused on the shift from paper-based records to electronic health systems and highlighted key benefits, including improved access to patient information, greater data availability, faster clinical decision-making, reduced test duplication, and better documentation quality. The speaker also emphasized how digital systems support research, quality monitoring, and improved coordination of patient care, especially for nurses, sharing real-world insights from Norway’s healthcare system to demonstrate successful implementation.
The session also addressed challenges endured during the initial adoption of electronic health records, including workflow disruption, increased documentation time, and system complexity. This lecture enabled the undergraduate nursing student cohort to gain a deeper understanding of the operational functioning of electronic health records and systems in one of the northern European countries. The lecture aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education by enhancing the knowledge and competencies of nursing students through international academic exposure. The program was coordinated by Dr. Pratibha, Assistant Professor, Department of OBG Nursing, under the guidance of Dr. Sonia R. B. D’Souza, Professor and Head, Department of OBG Nursing, and Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Professor and Dean, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. Overall, the session was highly informative and provided valuable insights into both the advantages and practical challenges of implementing electronic health records in modern healthcare.
