Health Education Committee Report on National Safe Motherhood Day Observation

The Health Education Committee of MCON, Manipal, conducted health education on 17th April 2026 for postnatal mothers, focusing on postnatal care in observance of National Safe Motherhood Day. The program was conducted by four sixth-semester BSc Nursing students under the guidance of the Committee Advisor, Mrs. Laveena Barboza, Assistant Professor, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing.

Health education was conducted at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, in the WH5 and WH2 OBG wards from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The session commenced with a brief introduction by the Committee Chairperson, Mr Dion, addressing the postnatal mothers about the purpose of the health education program. This was followed by health education on anemia and its management by Ms. Trisha; breastfeeding and postnatal exercises by Ms. Kripa; and a demonstration of correct breastfeeding techniques and Kangaroo Mother Care using a pediatric mannequin by Ms. Varada. A total of 12 postnatal mothers benefited from the program.

The program contributed towards achieving SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
