The Department of Periodontology, MCODS,Mangalore organized an Oral Hygiene Day celebration on 5th August 2026 at Dakshin Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Attavar, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among school children about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and encouraging healthy oral health practices.

As part of the celebration, a Drawing Competition was conducted for students of Grades VI and VII from both Kannada and English Medium sections. The competition was based on the themes "Sugar Monster vs. Superhero Tooth" and "A Tooth's Dream." Around 110 students enthusiastically participated in the competition, displaying their creativity and understanding of oral health concepts. All the drawing materials required for the competition were provided by the department. After careful evaluation, the best three drawings from each section were selected, and the winners were awarded prizes.

An oral health awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Sangeeta, who highlighted the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, proper tooth-brushing techniques, healthy dietary habits, and the need for regular dental check-ups. The interactive session helped students understand the significance of preventing oral diseases through simple daily practices.

To make the celebration memorable for all the children, refreshments were distributed to students from Nursery to Grade VII.

The Oral Hygiene Day celebration was successfully conducted with the active participation of students, teachers, and the organizing department. The programme effectively combined education and creativity, helping to spread awareness about oral health among young children.
