Amblyopia and Its Management with Virtual Reality

The Department of Optometry, MCHP, MAHE, Manipal, organised an alumni webinar on 04th February 2026 at 2:30 PM at the Pre-clinical Lab, 3rd Floor, MCHP, MAHE, Manipal. The event was conducted as part of the department’s ongoing alumni engagement initiatives to promote academic enrichment and
professional interaction among students and faculty.
The session was delivered by Dr Namratha Hegde, an esteemed alumna (UG Batch 2002–06 & PG Batch 2012–14), currently serving as Lead Institutional
Researcher, Faculty, and Clinical Optometrist at Sankara College of Optometry, Sankara Academy of Vision, and Sankara Eye Hospital, Bengaluru.
The topic of the webinar was “Amblyopia and its Management with Virtual Reality.” Dr Namratha Hegde presented an insightful overview of amblyopia, discussing its clinical features, diagnostic approaches, and recent advancements in management using virtual reality–based vision therapy. The session highlighted innovative therapeutic strategies and their practical applications in modern optometric practice. Students of department of Optometry actively participated in the interactive discussion, clarifying concepts and gaining exposure to emerging technologies in vision care.
The program was organised under the guidance of Dr Krithica S, Head of the
Department of Optometry, with coordination by Ms Manasa, Alumni Coordinator. It successfully strengthened alumni–student connections and enhanced academic learning by introducing students to advanced clinical practices.
