Overview - M.Tech (Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics)
The MTech Program in Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics is designed to cater to the increasing demand for CFD specialists having practical and technical knowledge. This course is developed mutually by a consortium called APPLY consisting of 11 Universities/agencies worldwide. This course will address the needs of graduates and engineers who wish to further their career prospectus in the areas of computational fluid dynamics. The program would be of interest to engineers and scientists—both aspiring and professional—with aerospace/ mechanical/ automobile/ civil/ chemical engineering applications.
The objective of Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics Program is to develop and understand the fundamental principles of finite element method, finite volume methods in analyzing and solving systems involving fluid flow with wide ranging applications from aeronautical, automobile, environmental and heat transfer. Graduates will develop the ability to solve multi-disciplinary problems and will be a part of future development in automotive industries with proficiency in design, analysis, manufacturing and safety features. The course is spread across 4 semesters with first and second semesters convering fundamental topics on computational fluid dynamics and applied subjects wherein the CFD is exclusively adopted. This is supported with practical hands on experience in simulating flows using commercial software tools such as Ansys & Matlab which are high industrial demand. The course is equipped with courses having applications in aerodynamics, heat transfer, environmental flows, biofluids, vehicle aerodynamics and athmospheric flows.
APPLY
APPLY is consortium of 11 Internationally reputed Universities which aims to develop a state of art CFD Master’s course for benefit of Industry and Research worldwide. The consortium is led by Chiang Mai University (Thailand). The partner Universities of the consortium are Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India), University Patras (Greece), Nareshan University (Thailand), Cranfield University (UK), Universiti Malaya (Malaysia), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), UiTM (Malaysia), Metropolitan College (Greece), Manipal University Jaipur (India), Vellore Institute of Technology (India). This Master’s course in Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics is outcome of several deliberations with Industry and Academic experts on the need to come out with a well curated course which is the need of the most Industries and Research centers. This course is co-developed by the consortium and will be offered in each of the partner universities which will facilitate credit transfer, semester exchange and student mobility.
CAREER PROGRESSION
CFD expertise is the most sought after skill required by most of the Industries in India today. With mushrooming investments in the aeronautical and automobile, there is considerable demand for engineers to pursue not only industrial analysis but also research in various Government agencies and research centers. Post graduate students have great scope to work in related fields in India and abroad. With infrastructure development in India there is substantial growth in Automotive, Aerospace and chemical industries such as Tata, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj, TVS, Fiat, Ford and international companies like Volkswagen, Audi, Renault, Caterpillar, L& T etc.
