Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC), located at Baridih, Jamshedpur, in the East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, is a premier institution for medical education and training. The college has been established under a unique consortium initiative between Tata Steel and the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal. MAHE has been formally recognised as an Institution of Eminence (IoE) by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in October 2020.

Jharkhand currently has a limited number of medical colleges, resulting in a significant shortage of trained medical professionals. In this context, the establishment of MTMC is playing a vital role in augmenting the availability of qualified doctors, strengthening healthcare infrastructure, and improving access to quality medical services for the local population. The institution also contributes significantly to increasing the number of MBBS seats available for medical aspirants within the state.

Under this consortium initiative, MAHE Manipal has developed state-of-the-art infrastructure for the medical college at the Ardeshir Dalal Memorial Hospital (ADMH) campus in Baridih, spread across approximately 20 acres. The college offers 200 MBBS seats annually, and Tata Main Hospital (TMH), Jamshedpur, serves as the attached teaching hospital, providing extensive clinical exposure and training to students.

Notably, this consortium represents the first private–private partnership model in medical education in India, established in accordance with the Amendment Gazette Notification No. MCI-34(41)/2019-Med./112859 dated May 14, 2019, issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI). This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, aims to encourage greater private sector participation in medical education to address the national shortage of doctors while maintaining high standards of medical training and education.
