Overview

The School of Basic Sciences, Humanities & Management (SBHM) at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, a constituent institute of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), is a multidisciplinary school that brings together faculty expertise across Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Humanities, and Management. Established through the integration of foundational science and management disciplines, the School provides a rich academic ecosystem that promotes interdisciplinary teaching, research, and innovation, preparing graduates for diverse academic, research, and professional pathways.

 

The School offers a globally aligned curriculum reinforced by experiential learning, international collaborations, and access to state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. Programs


School of Basic Sciences, Humanities & Management, MIT offers the following programs:

    The School offers a four-year B. Tech. program in Computer Science and Financial Technology, the first of its kind AICTE-approved program in India since 2022. The program has been developed in collaboration with FIS Global Business Solutions India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Fidelity National Information Services, Inc., USA (Fortune 500 company), which contributes to curriculum design and industry-oriented classroom engagement at MIT Manipal.

    The program provides graduates with strong theoretical foundations and rigorous practical training in Computer Science, Financial Technology, applied mathematics, and analytics, preparing them for careers in fintech, banking technology, analytics, and software engineering. The program is among the most sought-after undergraduate programs at the institute.

    The B.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing  started in the year 2022, is designed as an integrated program drawing from Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Graduates develop strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills with applications across data science, computing, finance, and engineering domains.

    The curriculum offers program electives, institute-wide open electives, and minor specializations in areas such as Information Management and Analytics, Business Management, Finance, Security Analytics, and Healthcare Analytics.

    The School offers a postgraduate M.Tech. program in Engineering Management, since 1988 is designed for graduates from diverse engineering disciplines aspiring for leadership and managerial roles. The program integrates advanced engineering concepts with management theories and professional practices, supported by hands-on training using modern software tools and exposure to industry practices.

    Graduates are prepared for careers in project management, operations, consulting, analytics, and technology leadership across industrial and service sectors.

    The School offers a five-year Integrated M.Tech. program in Entrepreneurship for undergraduate students of MIT who are motivated to build startups and entrepreneurial ventures. The program is supported by a strategic partnership between Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, and DLabs Incubator Association, Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad (MoU year – 2024).

    The curriculum emphasizes innovation, venture creation, product development, and startup incubation, supported by mentorship, industry exposure, and ecosystem engagement. 

     

    The two-year  M.Sc. in Chemistry program started in 2009, focuses on Organic and Applied Chemistry, with advanced-level theory and laboratory training spread across four semesters. The curriculum includes Inorganic, Organic, Physical, and Analytical Chemistry, preparing students for careers in research, pharmaceuticals, materials science, and chemical industries.

    The School has been offering a two-year M.Sc. in Physics program since 2009, with curricula aligned to UGC recommendations. The program provides strong foundations in fundamental and advanced physics, supported by program and open electives that address emerging areas of the discipline.

    Graduates are prepared for careers in research, academia, high-technology industries, and doctoral research in India and abroad.
