The Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) provides clinical services to support patients in need of blood component therapy, therapeutic apheresis, and specialized laboratory diagnostics. In addition, it collects and prepares the blood components used in patient care, and act as a Reference Lab for the region and offers  Post graduate program in Transfusion Medicine.

About the Area of Study

Transfusion medicine is the branch of medicine concerned with the transfusion of blood and blood components. There has been enormous progress in transfusion medicine which has developed into a specialist area of its own in the last decade. It now encompasses many important areas of medicine including haematology, immunology, transplantation science, microbiology, epidemiology, clinical practice and research and development.
