Program Description

This program, B.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing, is designed as a combination of topics taken from three different streams, namely, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Graduates of this program will emerge with a deep theoretical knowledge and a strong practical training in mathematical, statistical, and computer-related aspects. During the 5th and 7th semesters, students can select Open Electives and Program Electives from various Schools across the institute. The program offers Minor Specializations focused on contemporary themes such as Information Management and Analytics, Business Management, Finance and Security Analytics, Health Care Analytics, besides the principal courses of advanced Mathematics. Meritorious students with a CGPA of 8.5 and above at the end of the 5th semester can also opt for B.Tech. Hons.

 

Focus

Due to the increasing need for engineers with a stronger base in Mathematics and Statistics, the focus of this course is set on the following objectives. Industrial-oriented subjects like Computational Linear Algebra, Time Series Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Data Structures, Scientific Computing, Machine Learning, and Optimization make the graduates ready for the industry. A strong base in classical subjects like Real Analysis, Algebraic Structures, Theory of Automata, Mathematical Logic, Artificial Intelligence, and Applied Graph Theory will make the students ready to take up research programs in reputed institutes either in India or abroad. Inclusion of topics based on Analytics and Information Systems, such as Coding Theory, Mathematics for Finance, Game Theory and Statistical Decisions, Algorithms, Advanced Programming and Cryptography, will make the students ready for jobs in reputed analytics sectors.
