TCQM

The Transdisciplinary Centre for Qualitative Methods (TCQM) is a joint initiative between Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, India and the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, under the support of Public Health Evidence South Asia (PHESA). The Centre was inaugurated by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal on 13th December 2016. Dr. Ajay Bailey, Co-ordinator, TCQM has been awarded Dr. TMA Pai Endowment Chair in Qualitative Research. This award provides seed fund to carry out various research activities of the centre.

TCQM at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, provides a broad base of support and training to researchers in qualitative research with resources, good infrastructure and the required expertise on qualitative research methods.

 

Vision

To educate, facilitate and promote transdisciplinary qualitative research for the comprehensive understanding of issues pertaining to the public health. TCQM shall provide an essential platform for researchers to share expertise, collaborate, network and build new projects.

 

Mission

Our mission is to advance qualitative inquiry in health and allied disciplines and promote research for improving the wellbeing of the society in all contexts. 

 

Objectives

  • To promote inter-disciplinary research in public health.
  • To provide impetus to researchers from across disciplines to share expertise and collaborate.
  • To create awareness about qualitative research in public health in South Asia.
  • To build capacities of young scholars in teaching and conducting qualitative research.
  • To establish a regional hub for qualitative research in South Asia through a transdisciplinary approach that involves researchers, practitioners and civil society organizations.

 

Activities

  • To provide training on the design, conduct and analysis of qualitative research.
  • To organize joint seminars and winter/summer schools on recent developments in qualitative research.
  • To provide innovative tools and techniques for systematic evidence synthesis.
  • To provide the infrastructure, access to networks, and expertise to seek external research funding.
  • To create a network of scholars from institutions and research centres in the region.
