Overview
As the name decidedly suggests, the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Multimedia and Communication (MMC) focusses on multimediality as both an overarching industry reality and a philosophy. With seamless storytelling increasingly becoming the foundational vision of the composite Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry, platform-neutral content creation, multimedia expression, and technology integration have become the key skills for any communication professional. This postgraduate programme orients and conditions learners to these irreversible realities. It converts young and passionate media aspirants into seasoned industry professionals through the deliverance of a healthy mix of comprehensive and transdisciplinary theory modules, immersive practical exercises, detailed field-based activities, and relevant industry exposures. The programme places equal emphasis on Content, Technology, Business, Legality, and Ethics. It aims at not just creating trained professionals, it also makes an active attempt to prepare conscious and conscientious global citizens.
In terms of the curriculum structure, the programme includes Foundation Courses, Discipline-Specific Core Courses, Discipline-Specific Elective Courses, Specialization Courses, Open-Elective Courses, Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Skill-Based and Value-Based Courses, Vocational Courses, Internships/ Industry Projects, and Research/ Dissertation Projects.
In consonance with the three (3) larger verticals in the M&E industry, the programme offers three (3) specializations from the second (2nd) semester
a) Communication Practices
b) Audio-Visual Production
c) Marketing Communication.
Concepts from allied disciplines such as Visual Studies, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, History, Cultural Studies, Language and Literature, Cyber Technology, Marketing, Business, and Public Policy are strategically integrated into the programme to infuse sensitivity and critical thinking among the learners. The idea is to create better-trained and thinking practitioners. Hands-on training is provided in various aspects of Digital Media, Mobile Media, Media and Artificial Intelligence, Legacy Media (Broadcast and Print), Streaming Media (OTT Platforms, Customized Media, and the likes), and the newer tools of Marketing Communication (AI Marketing, Social Media Marketing, and the likes). Internships and Projects bring students closer to the professional practices. A wide array of specialized courses including Climate Communication, Sports Communication, Political Communication, Health Communication, Design Thinking, Data Journalism, Campaign Planning and Creative Strategies, Entertainment Marketing and Distribution, Market Research and Data Analytics, Strategic Media Planning and Buying, Digital Storytelling, Image and Sound, Television Programming and Production, and Digital Marketing are offered to facilitate employability.
