An Introduction to Archiving

Start Date: August 29, 2024

End Date: August 29, 2024

DLHS, MAHE invites you to a talk by Priyanka Seshadri, archivist at Azim Premji University. Her talk explores what archives were in the past, what they are today, and what their function is in our society. Over centuries, governments and empires have kept records, from the Mughal dynasty and the British colonial government to the post-Independence Indian nation-state bureaucracy. These older, institutional archives existed alongside personal, family, and community archives. We will look at the differences between these types of archives, and the rise of contemporary practices of documentation such as digital community archiving. We will then dive into the very important question: How do we create an archive?
