The event was Freshers’ Day for the 2023 batch organised by the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The faculty in charge was Neeraja Sasikumar, Assistant Professor of English, DLHS, MAHE, Bengaluru. The objectives of the event were to welcome the new batch of DLHS Students, help them with their adjustment to the MAHE campus culture and to build wholesome relationship with their peers, seniors, and the Department in general in an atmosphere of participatory celebration.
The Theme of the Freshers’ Day was Retro Disco. The event was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the HoD, Dr. Shilpa Kalyan along with the faculty of DLHS. This was followed by the investiture ceremony of the Student Council for the Academic Year 2023-24. The cultural events included welcome performances by the senior students as well as solo and group talent show by the freshers ranging from slam poetry, elocution to singing and dancing. The talent show was interspersed with an ice breaking games organized by the Psychology Club, Pink Freud. The best performers of the Talent Show were selected for the next stage of competition called Personality round by the Judges, Dr. Amandeep Singh and Ms. Iswarya, faculty of DLHS. The personality round was judged by Dr. Arunima Dube Upadhyay. Assistant Professor of Psychology and Ms. Lakshmi Kashyap, Student Counsellor, MAHE Bengaluru. The winner was crowned the “Star Fresher” and received a cash prize of Rs. 1500/- and a gift hamper. The runner up Star Fresher received a cash prize of Rs.1000/- and a gift hamper. Two students were selected “Disco Stars” for the category of best dressed in theme and were awarded gift hampers. A photobooth was arranged in the theme with props for students to click pictures. Refreshments arranged for all students and faculty of DLHS. The event ended with the announcement of winners, vote of thanks, and students and faculty dancing together to disco numbers.
Outcome Of the Event: The Freshers’ Day was successful in achieving the objectives of the event. The outcome of the event was in the rapport that the freshers and seniors were able to build among themselves and with each other. It was instrumental in promoting intra-departmental engagement, instilling confidence, and allowing the new batch of students to ease into their transition as students of DLHS, MAHE Bengaluru.
