On August 24, 2023, a flashmob was organized at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Bengaluru campus as a part of the Anti-Ragging Campaign. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students and promote a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. The flashmob was highly successful, drawing a large crowd of students and faculty members, and effectively conveyed the message against ragging through music and dance.
Ragging, a long-standing issue in educational institutions, can have severe physical and psychological consequences on students. To combat this menace, the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (DLHS), MAHE Bengaluru initiated an Anti-Ragging Campaign, and one of the campaign's highlights was the flashmob held on August 24, 2023. This event was designed not only to entertain but also to educate students about the harmful effects of ragging and the importance of maintaining a respectful and inclusive campus environment. The flashmob involved a diverse group of students from various courses and years, including volunteers, who rehearsed for weeks to ensure a synchronized and impactful performance.
The audience included students, faculty members, and staff of MAHE Bengaluru. the event successfully initiated conversations about ragging and encouraged students to report any instances of ragging they had witnessed or experienced. The campaign materials, including pamphlets and contact information for reporting ragging incidents, were distributed to the attendees, further promoting awareness and action.
