The Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) conducted a workshop on September 4th, 2023. This informative event was specifically tailored for students enrolled in the 1st and 3rd semesters of BA Psychology. The central theme of this workshop revolved around the intriguing topics “Alternative healing practices: unveiling the power of hypnotic influence”.
The highlight of this occasion was the presence of Dr. Jini K Gopinath, an esteemed speaker in the field of psychology. Dr. Gopinath conducted this intellectually stimulating workshop, dividing it into two insightful sessions. During these sessions, attendees were introduced to the realm of Hypnotherapy, with a particular emphasis on its Indian context.
One of the primary takeaways from the workshop was a clear understanding of hypnosis. Generally regarded as a therapeutic technique, hypnosis involves the gentle guidance of individuals into a state of deep relaxation and heightened suggestibility. It is widely recognized as an alternative or complementary method for healing, particularly in the context of mental health and overall well-being. This workshop provided a unique opportunity for students to explore the practice of group hypnosis, enabling them to address any doubts or misconceptions they may have held about this fascinating field.
Every student present at the workshop departed with a new and enlightening perspective on psychology. Hypnosis and alternative healing methods served as a fresh lens through which they could view the diverse and multifaceted world of human psychology.
The second session of the workshop catered specifically to the 3rd semester students, offering a more hands-on experience. Two volunteers were given the opportunity to actively engage with equipment commonly used in hypnotherapy, including pendulums. This practical exercise provided valuable insight into the workings of these tools and allowed for a deeper understanding of the reasons behind their usage and the effects they can produce. Those not directly involved in the hands-on activities had the privilege of observing the process, thus gaining a heightened level of comprehension regarding the causes and consequences of hypnotherapy.
