Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo Nadarajah is a distinguished legal professional whose extensive experience and achievements make him a valuable addition to Manipal Law School as Honorary Professor of Law. With over four decades of experience in the legal field, Prof. Sundra Rajoo has held significant positions in various esteemed organizations. He is currently the Managing Director of Sundra Rajoo Arbitration Chambers. Prof. Sundra Rajoo is a prominent figure in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and international arbitration and serves as the Founding President of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR) since 2018. He was also the Director of the Asian International Arbitration Centre till June 2024. He is a Chartered Arbitrator and a Certified International ADR Practitioner and served as the President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Asian Pacific Regional Arbitration Group. His fellowships with various professional organizations, including the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, further highlight his standing in the legal community. His extensive experience includes notable roles such as the past Global President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Deputy Chairman of FIFA’s Adjudicatory Chamber. He holds multiple degrees in law, architecture, and town planning, culminating in an Honorary Doctorate in Laws from Leeds Beckett University, UK, in 2015. His legal expertise is complemented by his qualifications as a Certified International ADR Practitioner and Chartered Arbitrator, making him a well-respected authority in his field. During his tenure as Director of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Prof. Sundra Rajoo played a pivotal role in transforming AIAC into a leading arbitration hub in Asia. Under his leadership, the centre grew in repute and became a trusted centre for dispute resolution. He was a pioneer member of the Monetary Penalty Review Committee set up under the Malaysian Financial Services Act 2013 for two terms. Prof. Sundra Rajoo's influence extends beyond arbitration; he is also the founding president of several key organisations, including the Sports Law Association of Malaysia and the Society of Construction Law. As an educator, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Malaya, Visiting Professor at the Law Faculty of GuanXi University, past Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Built Environment, University of Technology, and the Law Faculty at National University of Malaysia. His dedication to mentoring future legal professionals aligns with his vision for promoting accessible education in ADR. Prof. Sundra Rajoo’s contribution to legal scholarships is significant, with numerous publications on arbitration and construction law. HE has authored, co-authored, and edited Law, Practice and Procedure of Arbitration, 2nd Ed, 2016, Lexis Nexis (LN); Arbitration in Malaysia: A Practical Guide, 2016, (S&M); Construction Law in Malaysia, 2012, S&M; The Malaysian Arbitration Act 2005 (Amended 2011) – An Annotation, 2013, LN; The PAM 2006 Form, 2010, LN; The Arbitration Act 2005 – UNCITRAL Model Law as Applied in Malaysia, 2007, S&M; The Malaysian Standard Form of Building Contract (The PAM 1998 Form), 1999, Malayan Law Journal. In recognition of his contributions to law and society, Prof. Sundra Rajoo was awarded the Panglima Jasa Negara by the Malaysian King in 2012, conferring upon him the title "Datuk." He was also honored with the Leading International Arbitrator Award in 2023 by the Asia Pacific Centre for Arbitration and Mediation.
