Advancing virology through research, diagnostics, and public health impact
Established in 2010, the Manipal Institute of Virology (MIV), MAHE, is a leading centre for education, research, diagnostics, disease surveillance, and outbreak response in virology. MIV offers M.Sc. Clinical Virology and PhD programs, integrating academic learning with advanced training in molecular diagnostics, epidemiology, vaccines, therapeutics, and emerging viral diseases.
An ICMR Collaborating Centre of Excellence (ICMR-CCoE) and NABL-accredited laboratory (ISO 15189:2022), MIV serves as an Apex Referral Laboratory for Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis, and Chikungunya and offers 40+ diagnostic tests. The institute has contributed to confirming 200+ viral outbreaks and is a Global Virus Network Centre of Excellence and member of the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). Through collaborations with organisations including the CDC, USA, Karolinska Institute and leading national and international research institutions, MIV advances research and prepares professionals to address emerging infectious diseases and global health challenges.
