Dr.Piya Paul Mudgal

Dr. Piya Paul Mudgal is currently serving as an Additional Professor at the Manipal Institute of Virology, where she has been actively involved in academics, research mentorship, and program coordination since 2020. She contributes extensively to postgraduate and doctoral training in the field of clinical virology, with a strong focus on translational virology, antiviral therapeutics, and emerging infectious diseases.

As part of the MSc Clinical Virology program, she teaches a range of interdisciplinary subjects including Cell Biology, Tissue and Cell Culture Techniques, Bioethics, Research Ethics, Immunology of Viral Diseases, Emerging Viral Diseases and Public Health Response, Analytical Tools (Biostatistics), and Antiviral Pharmacotherapy. Her teaching emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical laboratory training relevant to modern virology and infectious disease research.

Dr. Mudgal has guided 17 MSc dissertation students, with 2 students currently enrolled, and serves as PhD guide for six doctoral scholars, including one completed PhD. She is actively engaged in mentoring students in research methodology, experimental design, scientific communication, and laboratory biosafety practices. In addition to classroom teaching and research supervision, she has conducted nearly 30 workshops and training programs in areas such as virology laboratory techniques, biosafety, research ethics, antiviral screening platforms, and infectious disease research. She also serves as the Academic Coordinator for the MSc Clinical Virology program and is a member of the Board of Studies at Manipal Institute of Virology.
