Overview

The Department of Periodontology was established in the year 1987, while the postgraduate programme was initiated in 2007. The department provides instruction and clinical experience in aetiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the periodontium in adults.

The main objective is to teach dental students the diagnosis treatment and prevention of periodontal diseases. Students are trained to recognize and treat periodontal diseases at all stages of severity and in combination with other phases of dental care.

The department is furnished with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment. The outpatient department is equipped with 45 modern dental chairs with 24 ultrasonic scalers, an electro cautery unit, an Implantology unit and a LASER unit. The Department has a library comprising more than 96 titles and 175 books, and a seminar hall with all modern audio visual aids and computer and internet facility.

Diagnosis of periodontal diseases, Surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy, Dental implant treatment planning, Comprehensive therapy involving an interdisciplinary approach and Supportive periodontal treatment are the core competencies of the department.

Lasers

The department is equipped with the state of art MD Picaso Diode Laser. The postgraduate students are encouraged to use the Laser for various periodontal procedures like depigmentation, gingivectomy, frenotomy and frenectomy.          

Dental Implants

The staff and postgraduate students are encouraged to place dental implants. The system of Implants currently in use are the MIS seven system. The post graduate students are encouraged to place a minimum of 10 dental implants in their 3 year post graduate course.

Certificate course in restorative dentistry

The staff are a part of the certificate course in restorative dentistry, where in the basic periodontal procedures are being taught to the students.
