ABOUT THE DIVISION

The Division of Yoga, under the Centre for Integrative Medicine & Research (CIMR), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), is dedicated to advancing education, research, and clinical application of Yoga Therapy within an integrative healthcare framework.

With a legacy spanning over four decades, the Division has contributed to the development of Yoga Therapy education, research, and clinical practice while continually adapting to evolving healthcare needs. The Division offers postgraduate and doctoral programs that integrate classical yogic knowledge with contemporary scientific understanding, therapeutic application, and academic inquiry.

The Division actively engages in teaching, research, clinical training, and community outreach, with a focus on promoting evidence-informed Yoga Therapy for health, wellbeing, disease prevention, and supportive care. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and research-driven learning, students are prepared to contribute meaningfully to wellness, academics, research, and healthcare settings.

Located at the Triveni Centre within MAHE's Health Sciences Campus, the Division provides an environment that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, professional development, innovation, and lifelong learning while preserving the rich traditions of yoga and its therapeutic applications.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

M.Sc. Yoga Therapy

A two-year postgraduate program integrating classical yogic knowledge, therapeutic application, clinical training, and research. The program prepares graduates for professional opportunities in wellness, healthcare, academics, and research.

Ph.D. in Yoga Therapy

A doctoral program focused on advanced research in Yoga Therapy, Yoga Science, and health-related applications of yoga. Scholars engage in original research contributing to the growing scientific understanding of yoga and its therapeutic potential.

YOGA THERAPY SERVICES & CLINICAL PRACTICE

The Division of Yoga provides Yoga Therapy services through its dedicated Yoga Therapy Outpatient Department (OPD), supporting health promotion, wellness, and patient care.

Located within MAHE's Health Sciences Campus and associated with Kasturba Medical College & Hospital (KMC), the OPD receives referrals from various clinical departments and specialties, including Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Psychiatry, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, and other healthcare services.

The facility also serves self-referred individuals, patients referred from external healthcare institutions, MAHE students, MAHE staff, and members of the wider community seeking Yoga Therapy support for health and wellbeing.

Students gain valuable experiential learning through supervised clinical exposure, patient interaction, therapeutic observation, and application of Yoga Therapy approaches within real-world healthcare settings.

The Division also participates in community outreach programs, wellness initiatives, Yoga Therapy camps, and public health activities that support the broader application of yoga for individual and community wellbeing.
