Established in 2011, the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal launched its postgraduate course in 2012, gaining MCI recognition in 2017 and the Best Institutional Award at the TRANSCON 2019 National Annual Conference. The MD in Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion is a unique, multidimensional speciality that brings together blood banking, immunohematology, coagulation, and hematology, integrating science, technology, medicine, public health administration, and the wider community.

A therapeutic apheresis facility offering cascade filtration and stem cell collection, alongside apheresis product availability and 100% blood component transfusion services. Specialised modified blood components, including irradiated components, are prepared for patients with specific clinical requirements.
