The importance of oral health care in the management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been studied. These patients have varied oral manifestations but cannot be called pathognomonic, however, attention to oral health care has been lacking and poor oral care can create systemic complications which can be a poor prognostic indicator in renal disease. An observational study which documented the oral hygiene status and oral lesions in CKD patients on peritoneal dialysis. Information on patient's biodata, relevant medial history, drug history, alcohol and tobacco consumption were documented. Detailed extra oral and intraoral examination was done. oral hygiene, periodontal mobility and oral mucosal assessment was carried out on all these subjects. Intraoral changes were evident among all subjects, 06 had soft tissue changes and 16 had hard tissue manifestations. Intraorally, soft tissue lesions seen in the descending frequency were intraoral pigmentation, candidiasis, gingival recession, gingival enlargement and periodontal abscess. The higher prevalence of oral lesions in CKD patients necessitates mandatory oral screening to identify patients with deteriorating renal function. The management of such lesions will enhance the overall well- being of CKD patients in developing countries.
