Pioneers of the path to clinical and computational neurosciences

Discover the diversity of prospects in emerging health and neurotechnological sciences
Established as a teaching and research department under MAHE in 2022, the Department of Basic Medical Sciences (DBMS), Manipal provides a strong interdisciplinary foundation in the basic medical sciences. Our faculty support the academic and teaching requirements of health sciences institutions across MAHE, integrating Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Genetics, Nutrition, Public Health and Neurosciences. DBMS also offers the B.Sc. Basic Medical Sciences program, with opportunities to progress into advanced study in Clinical and Computational Neuroscience, combining classroom learning, hands-on training and research-based education.
Research is integral to DBMS, with the MAHE Researcher Portal currently recording 250 research outputs, 200+ research articles, 900+ citations and 27 researcher profiles. Supported by experienced faculty, interdisciplinary research and MAHE's wider health sciences ecosystem, DBMS prepares students for careers in biomedical research, healthcare, academics and emerging areas of medical science.
The Department of Basic Medical Sciences (DBMS), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), is committed to excellence in teaching, research, academic mentorship, and personal and professional development. DBMS brings together expertise in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pathology, and related disciplines and provides an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning process that provides a strong foundation in the basic medical sciences essential for understanding human health and disease.
Through academic mentorship, research exposure, collaborative learning, and opportunities to develop critical thinking, communication, teamwork, leadership, and scientific skills, the department encourages learners to grow as confident and responsible professionals.
