Vision, Mission & Objectives of MIDAS, DST- MAHE HUB

Vision

Establishment of a regional Hub at MAHE, for design, development, entrepreneurship, manufacture and marketing of innovative products pertaining to healthcare technology, catering to institutions and industry located in the west coast of our country.

Mission

The main mission of the Hub at Manipal is to provide a stable platform to individuals, institutions, and industry, for design, development, and manufacture of novel technologies related to healthcare. This will be achieved through the establishment of a Hub eco-system comprising multi-disciplinary and inter-dependent technical activities, encompassing healthcare needs assessment, innovation ideation, prototype development, proof-of-concept laboratory validation, preclinical and clinical trials leading to technology transfer, and manufacturing, of medical devices and instruments indigenously.

Aims and Objectives

1. To assess the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of existing R&D work in the west coast region, with a view to ascertain the feasibility of enhancing the TRL to reach the level of 8 to 9, ready for use in healthcare.

2. To engage with entrepreneurs and MedTech start-ups and industries, to transform innovative ideas to market viable products by:

a.      A Conducive ecosystem to innovate, incubate ideas, mentor, validate, accredit and facilitate manufacturing of medical devices and instruments.

b.     Mentoring start-ups to access financial and other support, for marketing of their products.

3. To strengthen and support the biomedical device regulatory process in the country which is a statutory requirement of Govt. of India.

a.      Evolving best practices and guideline for biomedical device regulation and certification process for India.

b.     Training effective human resources to implement and execute regulatory norms of the highest standards.

4. To establish a state-of-the-art R&D centre with facilities for designing, prototyping, and limited manufacturing of novel medical device, instruments and equipment.

5. To provide support for the concerned project investigators for Laboratory validation, animal experiment, ethical clearance, clinical trials, intellectual property protection for limited manufacturing.

6. To provide allied services related to manufacture of medical equipment, instruments a device, including calibration, and technical maintenance.

7. To impart training for researchers who are willing to design, develop and build prototypes of medical technology products which can be manufactured and marketed.
