Distinguished Lecture series 2015 | Department of Medical Laboratory Technology

Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, Manipal College of Health Professions organized distinguished lecture series on recent trends in clinical laboratory science which is initiated for the scholarly exchange of ideas and themes pertaining to clinical laboratory science. Prof. M.S.Valiathan, the National research Professor inaugurated the program on 14th January, 2015. Prof. MS Valiathan, Chief Guest commented about the the current importance of clinical laboratory professionals in the healthcare system. He also specified the suitability of the term clinical laboratory science for the discipline in this era and reminded the Medical laboratory scientists to do research by incorporating technology.

Special Lecture on “Quality in the context of errors in laboratory medicine” was delivered by Dr. Sujay Prasad, Professor and NABL Lead Accessor, Anand Diagnostic Center, Bangalore.

The lecture series with eminent speakers and flawless organisation can be considered as a remarkable event in the field of clinical laboratory science education in the region. 

The 1st Lecture in the series was delivered by Dr Shivananda Nayak, Professor, Dept. of Biochemistry, University of West Indies on “Adiponectin- exploring the link between Diabetes Mellitus and heart diseases”.

The 2nd lecture was on March 27th, and delivered by Dr. Arun Kumar, Professor and Head, Dept. of Virus Research, Manipal Academy of Higher Education on “Challenges of clinical laboratory services in the context of emerging infectious diseases”.

The 3rd lecture in the series was on May 11th 2015 by Dr. Chethan Manohar, Professor of Pathology and In-Charge, Clinical laboratory, Kasturba Hospital, on “Cell counter alerts, what do they mean?”

The 4th lecture was on 20th August 2015 by Dr. Pragna Rao, Professor of Biochemistry and Associate Dean, KMC, Manipal on “Pre-examination variables in plasma glucose estimation”.

The 5th Lecture, on November 2nd 2015 by Dr. Ranjini Kudva, Professor of Pathology, KMC, Manipal on “Cytopreparatory techniques - from classic to novel”.

The 6th  Lecture on 16th December 2015, by Dr. Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay, Professor of Microbiology, KMC, Manipal, was on “Antibiotic Stewardship - The role of Clinical laboratory.
