Established in the year 2001, the department has developed itself as a centre of excellence, providing opportunities for Innovation Research, well equipped computer laboratories and dedicated faculty. The department takes great pride in preparing the students for the industrial demands of software and hardware sectors. There are five laboratories along with a research laboratory equipped with IBM workstations in a cluster. Two labs sponsored by D-Link and CISCO are set-up to provide hands-on experience in network design implementation and programming. The department has a digital library well equipped through IEEE, Science Direct and other on-line journals and magazines. The students are given freedom to organise contests and seminars and are encouraged to take part in extracurricular and co-curricular activities without compromising the quality of learning. The industries that have visited MIT for campus placement have appreciated the academic curriculum for the courses offered in the department and technical skills of the students. In short the department has become a Centre of Excellence in Information Technology.

Courses:

  1. B.E.(I.T.)
  2. MCA
  3. M.Tech (Network Engg.)
  4. M.Tech (Software Engg.)

The Dept. of Information & Communication Technology offers a BE degree course in Information Technology, a post graduate degree course in Master of Computer Applications and M.Tech courses in Network Engineering and Software Engineering and also Ph.D. Programs.

The curriculum of B.E in Information Technology covers software as well as hardware aspects. The subjects are taught by means of laboratory experiments and mini projects. The students are required to undergo an industrial training in a software company during their vacations and a practice school project of duration 4-6 months during the 8th semester, either in house or in a recognised software establishment.

The three year MCA programme has been divided into six semesters. The curriculum covers in detail, the software aspects of systems programming, networking, wireless and mobile communications, database systems, data warehousing and data mining, multimedia communications, embedded systems, client-server architecture and web engineering in addition to the core subjects such as programming concepts, data and file structures, C programming, computation technologies, computer graphics, systems programming and operating systems. Most of the subjects have associated laboratory exercises and mini projects. The final semester is dedicated for full time project to be carried out in a reputed industry.

M.Tech in Network Engineering is aimed at producing high quality engineers/ researchers for the fast growing field of telecommunications. Students will be provided with cutting edge technologies in computer communication and hands on experience in the latest trend setting areas such as network management and network design. Exclusive labs are set up – with CISCO network components, D-Link wireless network equipments, HP open View software (Network Management Tools) and QualNet simulation software. In addition, as an art of the course, training for certifications of CISCO Network academy program (CNAP) and Rational Unified Process (RUP) are provided.

M.Tech in Software Engineering is a unique programme with focus on state of the art techniques in software engineering activities in the context of contemporary specification, process engineering, design, testing etc. This course is well planned in consultation with leading software industries in India and abroad. The unique feature of this course is that all the admitted students will receive full scholarship for the entire duration of the programme.
