1. FORMULA Manipal:
Formula Student is the biggest and best of its kind in Europe, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineering - IMechE. The objective is to design & manufacture a high performance car in terms of its acceleration, braking, handling, low-cost, easy to maintain and reliable. In addition it should be aesthetic, comfortable & should use commonly available materials. For the 2009 event there were 126 Universities from 23 countries at Silverstone, U.K., our University got 65th position in overall ranking. The team comprised 35 student members from various engineering disciplines with Dr. Jagannath K, Professor, Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, as the Faculty Adviser.
2. “Innovation Competition” organized by Indo-US Science Technology Forum, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Intel – 2009.
Manipal University team comprising Mr. S.M. Abdul Khader, Faculty, Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, MIT, and Dr. ManjitMapara, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal,bagged the third place for theInnovation Competition organized by Indo-US Science Technology Forum, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Intel.Dr. ManoharaPai.M.M also received the award for mentoringthe above Innovation. The prize was awarded by the Shri. PrithvirajChavan, Honorable Minister of Science and Technology, Government of India, in Delhi on 28 August 2009.
3. GE EDISON INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2008: First Prize
The Innovation Competition, organised on 07th November 2008,by GE’s first and the largest R&D centre outside US, i.e. the John F. Welch Technology Centre(JFWTC) Bangalore, challenge the imagination, the analytical and technical skills of the students from India’s finest technical institutes. 190 student teams from all over the country submitted their innovative proposals in 04 challenges viz. Self Cooling Engine, Train Informatics, Home Energy Solution and Early Detection for Disease Management.

“TRAIN BLAZER” is a reliable, rugged working model (approved & certified by the Indian Railway Authorities) on communication system to record & display maximum information of the train passing through a station without stopping and to determine the characteristics of the rolling stock (hot axle detection, derailment possibility etc.) in a cost-effective way.
4. SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2008: I and II Prize
The reputed Schneider Electric Global Technology Centre, Bangalore organized the annual contest “Innovation Challenge 2008”, for engineering students. In 2008 contest, 160 teams, including the country’s premier institutes, submitted their innovative proposals, in 03 challenges viz. Electrification of rural areas at low cost, Innovative Solutions to Optimize Energy Usage and Web & Wireless Technologies to measure, monitor & control energy. MIT swept both first and second prize.
5. First prize: Innovative proposal on “Solar Powered Embedded LED Street Lamp”

Autobudder!! Mit Students’ Innovation
Student of Fourth year Biomedical Engineering, Abhinith K. Ambastha, along with two third year students of Computer Science and Engineering, Karthik Mandaville and Saurabh Suman, have written a Facebook Application "Autobudder" by which friends can be wished on birthdays automatically without logging in. This application was selected by ACM and has been incorporated by Facebook Corp in its Facebook application. As of 17th November, 2010 we have reached out to more than 2.28 lakh people and have 1100 registered users. |
