Manipal Institute of Communication, Manipal

Rooted in social philosophy, Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) of the Manipal University tries to embody the spirit of democratic egalitarianism in education. Established in 1997, it has emerged as one of the premier communication, media and journalism institutes with international reputation. It offers two-year post-graduate course (MA Communication), three-year graduate programme (Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communication), one-year post-graduate diploma in Corporate Communication (PGDCC), a six-month certificate course in animation, Masters in Film Art and Film making,( a dual degree programme in collaboration with EICAR, France ), Diploma in Film Art.

The communication education in the Institute covers journalism (print, radio, television and new media), film studies, public relations, advertising, corporate communication along with many other related subjects. The students are given education - both in the skills of communication and its philosophy. The courses have been designed in such a way that the students become skilled as well as thoughtful.

The post-graduate programme introduces students to all streams of communication in the first two semesters and facilitates them to specialize later in print and new media or broadcasting or communication management (corporate communication, advertising etc) or film studies in the last two semesters. Along with these, students are also introduced the basic aesthetics of all arts.

Our graduate programme focusses on media education with a fair understanding of other social sciences. We constantly renew our curriculum and infrastructure to meet the challenges of the changing times. Veteran journalist and former chairman of Prasar Bharati M V Kamath is the MIC Honorary Director and former journalist Varadesh Hiregange is its Director.

The admission process for MS Communication, BAJC and PGDCC is based on an all-India entrance test. In case of post-graduate programmes, it is also accompanied by group discussion and interview. Our student-strength has grown from time to time. Starting with 20 students, today MIC has about 350 students. The location of MIC is a pleasant ambience with green grass and brown brick (combing nature and culture) making it a lovely place for intellectual pursuits.

The MIC is one of the very few private institutes in the country offering full-fledged post-graduate and graduate programmes with advanced infrastructure, unique holistic curriculum, most modern (and also post-modern) library, skilled plus thoughtful faculty, placement process, international exchange programmes, lively co-curricular activities (theatre, dance, music, cinema, literature, debate, nature, painting, clay modeling etc) and an ambience which encourages students to scale new heights in their areas of interest with a firm root in social sensitivity.
