Overview 


The department was established in 1989 under Manipal University. The undergraduate program for BPT was started in the year 1995 and subsequently the postgraduate MPT program in 2003. The department of physiotherapy at KMC, Mangalore now has all the facilities of academic, clinical and research for undergraduate (BPT), postgraduate (MPT) and doctorate (PhD) studies in physiotherapy as per the requirements of the recognizing professional body, The Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP, New Delhi).

Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore conducts the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) programme; which has a duration of 4 ½ years (including 6 months of compulsory internship)

KMC, Mangalore conducts the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) programme, in the following specialities:

a. Orthopaedics Physical Therapy
b. Neurological Physical Therapy
c. Cardio-Respiratory Physical Therapy
d. Community Physical Therapy
e. Women’s Health & Paediatrics

This is a 2 year programme with an intake of 21 students.
