A comprehensive sensitisation workshop was conducted to provide students with critical insights into India's prison system, contemporary reform initiatives, and the role of legal professionals in advancing prisoner rights and institutional transformation, "Prison Administration and Reforms in India: Understanding the Contemporary Challenges and Legal Framework."

The workshop will bridge theoretical understanding with practical exposure to real-world challenges in correctional administration. Studying prison reforms can significantly impact society and the justice system by improving prison conditions, promoting rehabilitation and reintegration, ensuring access to justice, protecting human rights, informing policy and legislative reforms, and ultimately reducing crime rates and enhancing public safety. This can lead to better living conditions for inmates, reduced recidivism, and improved scope for their reintegration into society, benefiting both individuals and the community as a whole.

The sessions were conducted by Advocate Basawa Prasad Kunale, who has been litigating before various courts in Bengaluru for 8 years.

The first session provided students with an overview of the various aspects to be covered in the subsequent sessions. The discussions revolved around the nature of prisons and their history, the problem of overcrowding in prisons and the high volume of undertrial prisoners, and some of the reasons that contribute to the same.
