“MASTERING MAGNIFICATION” WORKSHOP CONDUCTED AT MCODS, MANIPAL
August 29, 2026
The Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Manipal, conducted a two-day workshop titled “Mastering Magnification” on 28th and 29th August 2026. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Tina P. P., Professor & Head, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, MCODS, Manipal, with Dr. Ankit Arora, Adjunct Professor, MCODS, Manipal, serving as the Resource Person. The workshop was designed to enhance participants’ understanding and clinical application of magnification, with a focus on developing technical skills, improving clinical precision, and facilitating better patient outcomes. A combination of lectures, demonstrations, model-based exercises, and patient-based clinical training provided participants with comprehensive exposure to the principles and practical applications of magnification in dentistry.
Day 1 - The first day commenced with lectures covering magnification and ergonomics, loupes and microscope components, accessories and armamentarium for microscope dentistry, and the clinical possibilities offered by microscope-assisted dentistry through case presentations. This was followed by a demonstration on microscope positioning and understanding magnification factors, including demonstrations using Masterclass worksheets. The hands-on sessions provided participants with practical exposure to loupes and microscopes, including Masterclass exercises for periodontal and endodontic applications. The afternoon session incorporated demonstrations and hands-on activities using MagniAid, along with periodontal exercises involving suturing on soft models under the microscope/loupes and endodontic outer-case microscope activities.
Day 2 - The second day further strengthened the clinical component through demonstrations and hands-on exercises using MagniAid. The sessions covered crown-down technique, down-pack and back-fill, and perforation defect repair, followed by a clinical demonstration on finding MB2 and pre-endodontic build-up. Participants then engaged in practical training involving rubber dam isolation, Class I/II cavity composite restoration, and access cavity preparation. Importantly, these exercises were carried out on both model work and patients, allowing participants to progress from controlled practice environments to real-time clinical application under magnification. The hands-on training provided an opportunity to develop familiarity with microscope positioning, magnification-assisted visualization, operative ergonomics, and precision-driven clinical techniques. The integration of model exercises with patient-based procedures enhanced the practical relevance of the programme and helped bridge the gap between simulation and clinical practice.
The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive learning experience combining theoretical knowledge, live demonstrations, model-based practice, and patient-based clinical training. The programme reflected the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, MCODS, Manipal’s continued commitment to advanced clinical training, professional skill development, faculty-led knowledge dissemination, and excellence in patient-centred dental care. The programme reflects the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, MCODS, Manipal’s continued commitment to advanced clinical training, faculty development, skill enhancement, and excellence in patient-centred dental care.
