SSC offers therapy sessions with qualified clinical psychologists, covered by student medical insurance (Medicare).

Keeping in mind that going to large hospitals often distresses students and dissuades them from seeking help, the SSC is located in a quiet residential area that ensures privacy and accessibility.

Modeled along the lines of counseling and wellness centres at the best universities in the world, the SSC at Manipal Academy of Higher Education is among very few such services in India.

The SSC has established a Student Advisory Board with student leaders from all institutes to promote a student-friendly approach and refer those in need to the Centre. It also organizes awareness campaigns, outreach sessions, and supports differently abled students.

The SSC facilitates psychiatrist appointments at the Centre with the student's consent. Emergency and hospital expenses are covered under the existing Medicare system at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal.

SSC operates as an independent unit under the aegis of the Directorate of Student Affairs, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
