Advanced Training in Otology and Endoscopic Ear Surgery

The Fellowship in Otology & Endoscopic Ear Surgery is a one-year advanced clinical program designed to build expertise in otology, microscope- and endoscope-assisted ear surgeries, and basic and advanced temporal bone dissection.

As a fellow, you play an integral role in the otology surgical team and participate in all aspects of patient care, including evaluation, treatment planning, surgery, postoperative management, follow-up, teaching, outreach, and research. The program also supports candidates planning an academic career through extensive research opportunities in otology and endoscopic ear surgery.

Program Highlights

Advanced Otology Training: Complete eight months at the ENT department for end-to-end experience in patient evaluation, treatment planning, surgery, postoperative care, and follow-up.

Microscopic and Endoscopic Ear Surgery: Spend four months at Sushrut ENT Hospital & Dr. Khan’s Research Centre, Talegaon, Pune, training in two-handed endoscopic ear surgery.

Comprehensive Surgical Caseload: Perform approximately 50 procedures, including myringoplasty, tympanoplasty, ossiculoplasty, stapedotomy, and mastoidectomy, while observing cochlear implantation under faculty mentorship.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Engage in regular multidisciplinary meetings with audiologists, radiologists, and speech therapists to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning.

Patient Communication: Develop expertise in effectively counseling patients and families regarding surgical options, hearing rehabilitation, and long-term care strategies.

Lab Work 

Develop temporal bone dissection skills and assess audiological and vestibular outcomes using in-house facilities.

Research Projects

Undertake a short-term research project, present the outcomes at an otology conference, and submit the work for publication.

Teaching & Learning

Support resident education through daily rounds, informal teaching, and supervision of junior doctors.
