Dr. UTTARA CHAKRABORTY

She runs the Stem Cell Cytometry and Imaging lab at MIRM, which is committed towards interdisciplinary research where she uses human mesenchymal and hematopoietic stem cells as research models integrating the concepts of computational biology, molecular mycology and clinical research to understand the potential of these cells in immunotherapy. She is an active member of the International Society of Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC), a dedicated International Association of cell cytometry. She was selected by the ISAC Shared Resource Laboratory (SRL) Emerging Leader Committee as an ISAC SRL Emerging Leader representating the Indian cytometry SRL groups. Her research interests are in: A.

Establishing in vitro bacterial and fungal infection models using human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to study host pathogen crosstalk and discovery of autophagy related markers in MSCs. B; Developing quality control pipelines for human mesenchymal stem cells using AI integrated approach for multiparametric image analysis. C. Developing diagnostic tools for classification of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) malignancies in Indian patients using imaging cytometry.

She is also teaching in the 3 independant Masters courses and is the Co-Coordinator of the MSc by Research Translational Immunology course. She engages in multiple skill development programmes for students, project interns, researchers, scientists and technicians in laboratories. She is active in outreach activities where she engages in teaching microscopy to high school kids of the rural Karnataka. She is the MIRM Cultural Coordinator and also the Editor-in Chief of the MIRM Newsletter "Rejuven".
