Dr. Sveta Chakrabarti

Encourages interactive learning, scientific discussion, and critical thinking among undergraduate and postgraduate students. Conducts lectures, practical sessions, laboratory demonstrations, and research discussions in cell and molecular biology, immunology, genetics, inflammation, and experimental biology. Sets question papers, evaluates theory and practical examinations, and guides postgraduate and doctoral students in research activities, seminars, thesis preparation, data analysis, manuscript writing, and scientific presentations.

Does research in the fields of immunity, inflammation, injury responses, hematopoiesis, gut biology, epithelial renewal, and inter-organ communication using Drosophila and other experimental models. Has expertise in cell and molecular biology, genetics, gene editing, fluorescence microscopy, reactive oxygen species biology, aquaporin biology, and quantitative image analysis. Updates knowledge by attending conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional-development programmes at national and international levels.

Is a mentor to undergraduate students and provides guidance beyond the classroom. Guides students in short-term research projects, laboratory training, literature reviews, and scientific presentations. Encourages independent thinking, scientific rigour, teamwork, and effective communication. Actively participates in departmental and institutional academic activities, including teaching, research supervision, scientific writing, grant-related work, and outreach.
