Current Academic Role & Responsibilities
As the Head of the Department of Critical Care, the primary academic responsibility includes ensuring the delivery of high-quality superspeciality training to DM Critical Care residents. The academic curriculum, bedside teaching, case discussions, seminars, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary learning activities within the department are overseen regularly. Emphasis is placed on fostering evidence-based clinical practice and encouraging residents to develop independent critical thinking and sound decision-making skills. An important component of the role involves creating an environment that balances supervised autonomy with patient safety in intensive care practice.
Residents and faculty are guided in research activities, thesis work, protocol development, audits, and academic publications. Interdisciplinary academic collaborations involving intensive care patients and critical care practices are also coordinated. Ensuring adherence to institutional, university, and regulatory academic standards forms an essential part of the responsibilities. Continuous efforts are made toward strengthening the academic reputation of the department through quality teaching, research, and ethical clinical practice.
Junior faculty members and residents are mentored to support their professional and academic growth. Overall, the role is directed toward advancing patient care, academic excellence, and the long-term development of the Critical Care program.
