Dr. Kavitha Karimbi Mahesh

She serves as a coordinator for the M.Sc. Data Science program. Her classroom contact hours involve a blend of lecture, hands-on sessions and active learning tasks. For the courses delivered, she puts conscious effort to involve students in accomplishable short-term research projects promoting collaboration, interaction and demonstration of innovative result-oriented solutions with targeted presentations and publications. To accommodate different learning styles and facilitate an optimum learning environment, she employs Ms Teams and LMS in course-specific content dissemination, promoting inclusivity and reproducibility in teaching and learning.

She guides postgraduate students in their seminars and journal presentations. She is a guide to multiple post graduate students leading to their M.Sc. Dissertion. She carries out research in areas of Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning and Data Analytics with prime focus on Indian languages. Currently she explores cross-domain applications, translating complex data into actionable insights for diverse sectors including public health, health care, higher education, public policy, materials science to solve localized real-world problems.

As a research supervisor for PhD candidates, she currently guides research works focussed on quantification of semantic drift, application of machine learning techniques to health care problems, handling missing data, and analysing misinformation in texts. She consistently interacts with research groups to explore areas that demands her expertise and that enables her keep pace with the on-going research developments. She is a teacher guardian to post-graduate students and mentors them on upskilling, placement preparations, choice based electives, networking and life-long learning.
