Dr. Abdul Ajees Abdul Salam

Serves as Associate Professor at the Manipal Institute of Applied Physics, MAHE, actively involved in teaching, research, academic administration, and mentoring of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. Teaches subjects including Structural Biology, Biophyis, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Mathematical Physics and Numerical Methods, Conputer Programming, Biosafety, Micro and Nanophotonics, Optical Materials, Nanomaterial Preparation and Characterisation, Nanobiotechnology, and Biophotonics. Actively guides postgraduate and PhD scholars in research projects, thesis work, seminars, scientific writing, and interdisciplinary research activities. Coordinates and contributes to examination, seminar series, doctoral research advisory activities, syllabus revision committees, and research-related academic initiatives within the department.

Research activities focus on Structural Biology, Protein Crystallography, Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction, Laser-Induced Crystallization, Molecular Modelling, Bioinformatics, Water Detoxification, and Environmental Bioremediation. Has contributed more than 50 crystal structures to the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) and approximately 7 protein structures to the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Has extensive international research experience with postdoctoral and research associate positions in the USA and active collaborations with researchers from multiple countries and industries.

Has authored more than 85 research publications and has patents in the field of environmental remediation and applied biosciences. Actively participates in faculty development programmes, workshops, conferences, research collaborations, and academic outreach activities to promote interdisciplinary research and innovation. Also contributes to educational development initiatives through association with FAIMER and mentoring activities for young researchers and students.
